Chief Software Architect
ReOrbit is looking for Chief Software Architect to shape the global architecture and engineering strategy for next-generation cloud-native, AI-native and agentic software platforms across the satellite and telecommunications domains.
Reporting to the Head of Software Engineering, you will serve as the senior technical authority, translating business and customer priorities into secure, scalable, resilient and maintainable solutions. You will define reusable platform capabilities with architecture oversight, guide critical technology decisions, and remain hands-on through coding, design validation and rapid prototyping using AI-assisted development tools.
It's an exciting chance to join a dynamic start-up, with the opportunity to make a real impact, to reach our goal of pushing the boundaries of space data transfer.
Responsibilities
Architecture & Technology Strategy
· Define the global architecture vision, target state, architecture roadmaps, reference architectures and decision guardrails across product line(s) and engineering teams.
· Architect modern software components and platform using cloud-native, microservices, Kubernetes, event-driven and API-first patterns, with portability across cloud environments.
· Shape make–buy–partner decisions and strategic technology investments by balancing customer value, security, cost, resilience, delivery speed and long-term maintainability.
· Maintain direct technical engagement through hands-on coding, architecture decision records, design and code reviews, proof-of-concept implementations, and rapid prototypes created with AI-assisted development tools.
AI-SDLC & Agentic AI Architecture
· Institutionalize AI-SDLC practices across requirements, architecture, coding, testing, security validation, deployment and operations.
· Define governance for AI-generated code and engineering artifacts, including human oversight, evaluation, traceability, intellectual-property protection and outcome-based productivity measures.
· Architect a technology-stack-agnostic agentic AI platform with reusable capabilities for abstraction, orchestration, memory, observability, lifecycle management, policy enforcement and security.
· Establish API gateway, Model Context Protocol (MCP) and Agent-to-Agent (A2A) patterns that enable secure interoperability, reuse and composability across agents and platforms.
Platform Engineering, Integration & Security
· Define reusable platform and integration capabilities spanning APIs, events, service orchestration, data mesh, developer self-service, hardware abstraction, automated CI/CD and DevSecOps.
· Embed secure-by-design and Zero Trust principles across identity, authorization, secrets, data, APIs, workloads and software supply chains.
· Guide open-source and third-party technology adoption, including licence compliance, vulnerability management, lifecycle risk and ecosystem strategy.
· Improve developer experience, service reliability, deployment consistency and onboarding speed through standardized, observable and automated platforms.
Skills and Requirements
· At least 15 years of progressive experience in software engineering and architecture, including leadership of large-scale, distributed and cloud-native platforms.
· A master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering or a closely related discipline.
· Mandatory hands-on coding capability and demonstrated skill in rapidly building and validating prototypes using AI-assisted software development tools.
· Deep expertise in Kubernetes, microservices, APIs, event-driven systems, platform engineering, DevSecOps, observability and secure software delivery.
· Practical experience applying AI-SDLC practices or delivering production-grade agentic AI platforms, including governance, evaluation and operational controls.
· A proven record of influencing global, cross-functional organizations and delivering major technology or engineering transformations with measurable results.
· Strong executive communication, systems thinking and the ability to convert ambiguity into clear technical direction, prioritized decisions and measurable outcomes.
Preferred Qualifications
· Prior experience as a Chief Architect, Principal Architect, Distinguished Engineer or equivalent senior technical leader.
· Architecture experience spanning both satellite and/or telecommunications systems, particularly mission-critical hardware–software environments.
Experience with multi-cloud and edge platforms, service mesh, site reliability engineering, AI governance and open-source ecosystems
What does ReOrbit do?
ReOrbit builds the foundation for the next generation of space applications by transforming satellites into truly intelligent, interconnected platforms, defined by software. Our satellite design philosophy revolves around the idea that satellites must network, communicate with each other and thus improve mission efficiency. How can this be achieved? Thanks to a flexible software-first architecture, where all these aspects are dealt with upfront in the mission concept, as integrated functionalities.
ReOrbit’s top-notch team of software engineers and system architects develop in-house software, procure hardware from the best-in-class suppliers, and seamlessly integrate the components to create flexible and secure satellites. Today, we are a rapidly growing company building a very strong multidisciplinary team to support our activities. We are headquartered in Helsinki, Finland with a subsidiary in Bariloche, Argentina.
