Head of Training and Documentation
ReOrbit is looking for a Head of Training and Documentation to lead the strategy, development, and governance of operational training and mission documentation across our Mission Operations and Ground Segment teams.
As our Head of Training and Documentation, you will build and scale the frameworks, processes, and standards that ensure mission teams are trained, certified, and operationally ready across all mission phases. Working closely with spacecraft, software, systems engineering, security, and programme teams, you will transform complex technical information into clear, controlled, and mission-ready operational content that supports safe and efficient satellite operations.
It's an exciting chance to join a dynamic start-up, with the opportunity to make a real impact, to reach our goal of pushing the boundaries of space data transfer.
Responsibilities
Define and lead the training and documentation strategy for Mission Operations and Ground Segment functions.
Establish and maintain the operational training framework for flight controllers, operations engineers, ground segment engineers, support engineers, and mission readiness personnel.
Own the end-to-end documentation lifecycle, including creation, review, approval, version control, release, and periodic refresh
Develop and maintain key operational documentation, including procedures, handbooks, training material, certification guides, work instructions, and operational readiness artefacts.
Lead the design and implementation of role-based training and certification paths for mission operations and ground segment roles
Coordinate with spacecraft, flight software, ground systems, systems engineering, security, and programme teams to ensure documentation reflects current system design and operational needs
Support mission readiness activities by ensuring all procedures, training packs, simulations, rehearsals, and console materials are prepared and validated ahead of launch and operations
Establish quality standards for operational documentation, ensuring clarity, consistency, traceability, configuration control, and audit readiness
Lead lessons-learned capture following tests, rehearsals, anomalies, mission phases, and operational campaigns, ensuring improvements are fed back into training and documentation
Act as the focal point for operational knowledge management, ensuring critical mission knowledge is retained, accessible, and transferable as the team grows
Skills and Requirements
Strong background in satellite mission operations, ground segment operations, spacecraft operations, or a closely related operational environment.
Proven experience developing, managing, or owning operational procedures, technical documentation, training material, or certification programmes.
Strong understanding of mission operations concepts, including LEOP, commissioning, routine operations, anomaly response, maintenance activities, and operational readiness.
Ability to translate complex technical information into clear, structured, and usable operational content.
Experience working with cross-functional engineering teams, including spacecraft, ground systems, software, security, and systems engineering.
Strong configuration control and document management discipline, including version control, review cycles, approvals, and release management.
Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and facilitation skills, with the ability to train and influence technical teams.
Leadership experience, including the ability to build processes, set standards, mentor others, and drive consistency across a growing team.
Experience with mission control systems, ground segment tooling, TT&C systems, automation platforms, or spacecraft monitoring and control environments.
Previous involvement in mission readiness reviews, simulations, rehearsals, launch campaigns, or operational validation campaigns.
Familiarity with training needs analysis, competency frameworks, operator certification schemes, or shift team qualification models.
Experience in a start-up, scale-up, or fast-moving space organisation where processes and documentation need to be built from the ground up.
Knowledge of documentation tooling, knowledge management platforms, learning management systems, or structured content management approaches.
What does ReOrbit do?
ReOrbit builds the foundation for the next generation of space applications by transforming satellites into truly intelligent, interconnected platforms, defined by software. Our satellite design philosophy revolves around the idea that satellites must network, communicate with each other and thus improve mission efficiency. How can this be achieved? Thanks to a flexible software-first architecture, where all these aspects are dealt with upfront in the mission concept, as integrated functionalities.
ReOrbit’s top-notch team of software engineers and system architects develop in-house software, procure hardware from the best-in-class suppliers, and seamlessly integrate the components to create flexible and secure satellites. Today, we are a rapidly growing company building a very strong multidisciplinary team to support our activities. We are headquartered in Helsinki, Finland with a subsidiaries in Bristol, UK, Bariloche, Argentina and Bengaluru, India.
